Super Real is the story of 5 twenty-somethings being recruited for a reality TV-show where the contestants compete for the obligatory $1,000,000! The twist? A scientist is going to graft superpowers onto each of the contestants for them to use in their struggle.
If you’ve ever been to one of SilverBulletComicBooks.com’s website competitors – Newsarama.com – you’ve likely seen the occasional posting by Jason Martin with a mention of his project, Super Real. This book is Jason’s baby, a story he has spent a long time crafting. He does every aspect of it, writing, art, colors, letters… this is his labor of love!
For a “novice”, Jason does a credible job with the art. He has a style that covers the characters and blends some photos into the background of the art rather seamlessly. The writing is something else, full of character, personality and lots of wordplay. The characters have distinct, plausible personalities, and I dig that. The colors are pleasant and work well with his art style.
The story has a lot of tongue-in-cheek moments and expends a lot of energy on situational comedy. Amusing stuff!
This is a good start for Super Real, and it makes me curious about seeing the rest of the series!
Plus, Jason offers a LOT of extras in this book. It is well over the normal page count. And there is a pullout poster by Josh (Dead@17) Howard that is just excellent! Plus some thoughts and the like; all making Super Real a lot of comic for your buck!
