"The Damnation Game" Part Two
Writer: Rafiel Nieves
Artists: Jerry DeCaire, Art Lyon(c)
Publisher: Moonstone
Holy hell! Rafiel Nieves drums up a method characteristic and rhythmic that keeps The Phantom moving. Each page leaves you breathless, and the atmospheric panel composition by Jerry DeCaire and Art Lyon evokes the Phantom theme by David Newman.
Nieves through Bengallan transplants to Chicago brings out the mythology of the of the Ghost Who Walks. Everybody who gets a glimpse of him is pleased to see him. These scenes emphasize a unique aspect to the Phantom seldom mentioned. The Phantom a white man has been totally absorbed into black culture. The Phantom is the protector of the innocent, and those who grew up in Bengalla knew that the color of the Phantom's skin was immaterial to the skull ring that he wore.
The injustice the Phantom faces this issue is deadly indeed, and for a moment it looks like the Ghost Who Walks will soon be replaced, for the son or daughter of the Phantom takes the place of the father or mother. Though, through frenetic action and the help or spirit of one who wears the Phantom's good mark, the Ghost Who Walks in the end prevails as he must.
Nieves, DeCaire and Lyon--whose explosive and emotional colors cannot be overlooked--give the reader pulp action at its best and add to the myth of the Phantom.
