Wolverine: Snikt! #2Posted: Friday, June 27, 2003 By: Dan Reyes
Writer/Artists: Tsutomu Nihei Publisher: Marvel Tsunami Comics
Plot: Wolverine is left off battling a Humanoid menace from Snikt#1. The Humanoid and Wolvie battle for a few panels. Fusa and her friends from this unknown world find Wolverine and the Humanoid fighting, it seems Wolverine is having a tough time in the fight so Fusa’s Robot, “The Colonel” buddy gives Wolverine advice on how to win against the Humanoids, which later are explained as “The Mandates”, and then saves the wild mutant as he is in bad shape from the battle. The rescue team head back with an injured wolverine to the underground city where they care for him in some infirmary. But, one of the rescue team members does not feel so well so off he goes to the medic (here it is, subplot!), as another team member follows him out of concern only to find his ill feeling teammate looks like an ill looking zombie face of mud that shoots something out of it’s face at the concerned rescue member! Gross!!!
Now Fusa, in an amazing but brief tale explains to wolverine why she knows of him, and why they desperately needed him, as well as begins to explain where they are So far, we are made aware of the fact that Wolvie is not on a different planet after all! Fusa, his pale looking newfound friend actually did not teleport him onto another world but actually she took him through a time travel process to Earth in the future where it is ravaged by Humanoids like the one he is Fighting (Here is where I think the artist and writer wants us to figure out that Fusa lost him and had to time travel again to meet wolverine in order to find him. I think! That’s just me. I could be wrong.). Well Wolverine starts to understand but then has questions of his own which gets interrupted by one of Fusa’s people who warns of the Humanoid invading their base through the rescue worker. An alerted Wolverine, Fusa and Colonel run off to find the menace and take care of it. They find the Humanoid and the rescue workers body in-twined together like something out of Alien: Resurrection! Yeah cool!!! The Colonel robot takes a blast at it and MISSES! Oh no the Humanoid escapes and is running around the underground base trying to locate more people and assimilate them. It seems the Humanoid has but did not take into account Wolverine, who comes crashing down on it with his claws sheated out. Such a cool panel!!! It seems the book starts getting to the action and the story, then on the third and last panel of the page, “…To Be Continued”! I know readers…I know… go get issue one and two so that by the time you read it three will be out. Hurry readers hurry! Hurry Tsutomu hurry!
Comments: The story is carrying far more dialogue than issue one, which is great because issue two is fleshed out to the reader more as the first issue left tons of questions and puzzlement. The art style is so dynamic too!! It’s just so incredibly fresh! Kia Assimiya move over!!! I really have to say that Tsutomu Nihei’s art is fascinating!!! I love his rendition of Wolverine in this comic. Seriously you can’t get enough of the artwork. I hope just like Kia Assimiya, Tsutomu Nihei gets a chance at one of the X-books after this series! That’s how good the art is. It would be great to see how he tackles the other x-cast members.
Final Word: If you have not bought this book you seriously need to! The issues have been very good illustration-wise and there is a definite solid story going on here. Wolverine readers need to take a look at this book. The covers are so dynamic too!!! Overall this book, in my opinion, is much better than the new Wolverine series being released because this is a refreshing new story arc. It does not offer the usual let’s make mutants into real people. This book is more like a futuristic direction, how a lone mutant reacts to space and a completely different type of enemy. If you’ve read Wolverine: X-Isle another perfect example of not the usual storyline which is finally what marvel needed to do desperately with it’s mutant characters. All in all I gave this book a 3 bullets rating on issue one and two and gave a extra bullet due to added dialogue that was needed to carry the book farther into the story which issue two very good overall! Definitely worth the 2.99 cost!!!
