Ummmm...100,000 hapless souls living under the shadow of a tartar's sword almost sounds like Baghdad's former tyranny under Saddam Hussein. The lovely Tei Su and Princess Zheng discover Tei Su's father in a library dead of fright. The reason being is that he read "The Book of the Hungry Dragons" and this book holds the knowledge of the future. The future having upcoming events that are quite frightening. Tei Su and Princess Zheng talk about the mystical ring of staffs. Boon Sai Hong is the thief that has this ring. The ring burns his hand and there are ninjas chasing him down various rooftops of the city.
What I like about Way of the Rat is the martial arts action, if you like movies like 'Bulletproof Monk', then you will love this comic book. There is equal amount of action and adventure in Way of the Rat as compared to Bulletproof Monk! The drama is intense as Judge Xain is seen gambling with Merchant Fong. Merchant Fong loses and says it is not fair. Judge Xain asks if he is being called a cheater and you can almost feel the sweat pour down from Fong's brow. Fong is seen being taken away by guards, he is lucky he doesn't also lose his life. Boon Sai Hong has become a legendary thief and is known by the populace as the fabled Jade Rat. If you want to know more about Boon and his monkey PoPo, then pick up Way of the Rat and locate the back issues, because this story moves fast and furious! Way of the Rat #1 is being given away free to honor Free Comic Book Day, but I must say it is priceless!
