Off Center Presents "Drawing Closer" 11/21/02; A Look At Gay Representation In Comics Posted: Monday, November 18 On Thursday, November 21, 2002 at 7:00 PM, Off Center and Gayleague.com will present "Drawing Closer: Queer Representations and the Comics," a lively interactive forum with several of the top LGBT comic book artists and writers working today. This event will focus on how these representations -- from sexy superheroes of houses like DC to the radical riot grrrls of the indie presses -- forge and influence queer identity and aesthetics. Among the electric group of queer artists participating are: Jennifer Camper, artist for The Village Voice, The Advocate, and creator of subGURLZ, Howard Cruse, creator of Stuck Rubber Baby, Joan Hilty, editor at DC Comics, Phil Jimenez, writer and penciler for Wonder Woman, and Ariel Schrag, artist of Potential and Likewise. This event will take place at the LGBT Community center located at 208 West 13th Street at 7:00 PM. The suggested donation at the door is $5. |
