DETECTIVE COMICS #841 $2.99 (Paul Dini / Dusting Nguyen)I think that I've addressed my fanboy mancrush for everything and all that Dustin Nguyen does. Last month I neglected to mention this comic because I had somehow MISSED that it was the new book that Nguyen was working on. Shame on me. Well, that was just a taste, and with this issue the creative team is launching full steam into their run. AWESOME. I realize that there are those out there that might not like Nguyen's version of Batman (which is fine; they're wrong, but that's fine) but in my opinion his version is spot on and somewhat disturbing, unsettling even. After all, isn't that how Batman is SUPPOSED to come across? WILDSTORM: REVELATIONS #3 (OF 6) $2.99 (Scott Beatty & Christos Gage / Wes Craig)I was skimming through the new release this week when I was ready to skip this one by when is saw mention of Backlash. Better yet was mention of the original Backlash, Marc Slayton. Again, confession time: I am a HUGE Backlash fan. I don't know why. His old comic wasn't particularly awesome, and in some ways it represented some of the things that were bad about comics in the 90's, but I loved it just the same. LOVED it. Now if only they had gotten Brett Booth to draw this issue. That's not a slam on Wes Craig, it's more of my nostalgia for the original Backlash hitting me as for my money no one did Backlash better. That's all! Again, it was kind of a light week for me, which really, is fine. See, I just bought a 50” TV this week (it hasn't been delivered yet) and I could use the break, or rather, my wallet could. Was there anything that looked good to you this week? Until then, Peace! -Diaz |
