Fathers of Daughters

Well, I see that, of my characters, I am now officially Leutnant Winzig.

For those of you who don’t know my characters, Winzig is the total Nazi with no sense of humor. He’s not in the Nazi party, because he’s cheap (he doesn’t want to pay dues – Nazi party dues were the equivalent of 60 cents a month!) but he carries Mein Kampf around with him and tries to shove it down everybody else’s throat.

I USED to have a sense of humor. While I strove to be my character, the Desert Peach, I’m afraid I never got closer than Udo (the Peach’s orderly; snarky, smart-ass and abrasive, but at least knows how to laugh).

Winzig is just pissed off.

So today we will be doing something very Peachy, and attempt to examine something positive. Yes, I’m going to try to be even-handed, and kindly, and even-tempered, and helpful for all living things on the planet, including my enemies.

I really am going to try to be a liberal.

It’s not something I’m usually capable of. When an activist friend on my PolList, GE, sent me a site about how Christianity in the United States was distancing itself from the Right Wing Christian movement, I at first refused to send it, because, as I so subtly put it, “I don’t care really about people arguing about their Giant Magic Sky Fairies.”

But as GE pointed out – and GE is much closer to being a Real Liberal than I am – we needed to have as allies anybody who wants to save this country from the right wing crazies.

I agree. And as I then said, “In Nazi Germany, you could seldom hope for help unless you knew a Good Nazi – one of those people who joined the party from love of country and the belief that Fascism would bring back pride and strength to that country – and who were pissed off at the way they’d been betrayed by the leadership. I guess we just need to make sure we’re supporting the Good Nazis.”

Which, considering that I am so Winzig right now, that’s about as nice and accepting of anything I’m going to get. It’s sure as hell not liberal, in any sense of the word.

So we will say something totally positive. I mean, this will be completely Peachy:

If there’s anyone who is going to save this world now, it’s the Fathers of Daughters.

Fathers of Daughters will not want any kind of prejudice or sexual control or oppression of their children. They’ll take them fishing and get them college educations and closely examine wars to keep them from being shot in the head

It's mostly women who die in wars, especially today. Fathers of Daughters refusing wars to save the girls will help the boys, too.

I've seen this so often. Caring men who care for their girls, who teach them, and respect and trust their abilities and brains -- these men are our future.

And if you look around comics conventions, you’ll see dads bringing their daughters and moms bringing their sons. It’s not a White Man’s Burden any more.

Somebody should start a group called Fathers of Daughters.

Not www.onemilliondads.com – if you want to throw up, and want a quicker, easier way to do it than sticking your finger down your throats – go look at their logo. The cringing kid. The lowering adult male with a stick in his hand.

Do not even try to convince me those two are playing baseball.
